Overview

This project will have you and your action team becoming master builders of a novel, garbage-guzzling machine that eats, breathes, and wriggles – a vermicomposter!  You will build a Vermicomposter that uses red wiggler worms to transform your organic waste that would normally be sent to the dump, into a natural fertilizer that helps us grow all sorts of tasty treats.

Everywhere you look the word is out that we need to start to conserve and save energy. The challenge is figuring out, “So how do we do it?”.

This project will have you and your action team exploring the world of energy use and investigating alternative energy options. You will take part in a school audit to study and analyze what uses up energy at school and how you can start conserving it! At the end of the project day you will take-on the mission to lower energy use school-wide.

Do you know where your food comes from? Why does it matter where your food came from, you might ask?

During this project, you will participate in activities that get you thinking about these questions, and why the answers matter for your health, for farmers and rural communities, and for the environment. There is a lot more to know about what you put into your body than what first meets your eye in the grocery store, a restaurant, or your refrigerator.

This project will have you and your action team planting and caring for your own food from seed to harvest!

Does your schoolyard look bleak – more gray than green in sight?

This greening project will have you and your action team revitalizing your schoolyard by starting a greening project. You will transform your schoolyard by planting native trees, shrubs and wildflowers, and maintaining an outdoor learning space.

Your team will work to vision a collective change at your school and to transform your school ground into a natural place to learn about nature and contribute to a healthier school environment! You will be working to make your school yard more vibrant, dynamic and green!

Overview

This project will help you and your Action Team increase your understanding of issues relating to climate change.

You will develop an anti-idling campaign at your school, creating posters and information handouts about the negative effects of idling  and ask drivers to take the anti-idling pledge and be aware of your schools no idling zone!

Overview

If your school signs up for this action project, you will join a large movement across Canada that empowers people to clean-up their community shorelines so that they can help protect wildlife and enjoy their localwatershed! 

This project will have you and your action team doing your part to help remove garbage from a local body of water. By removing litter from sensitive aquatic habitats you are helping to restore the environment and creating healthier spaces for animals and plants to thrive.

This action project is based on the TD Canada Trust Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup program.

Quest for Clean Shorelines Recipes

Overview

This project will have you and your action team designing grocery bags from old materials from home to make funky & fun grocery bags!

There are plenty of innovative ways you can reuse common household products and learning how to do so is what this project is all about.  Specifically, by the end of this project we aim to flatten your fluffy pile of plastic shopping bags and turn your classmates into Reusing Superheroes – saving your money and our planet.

Reusable Bags Recipes

Overview

Did you know that something as simple as changing oil in a car, bathing a dog outdoors or making a garden could produce water pollution?  You might never have thought about it, but that’s exactly what happens when things like oil and grease, soaps and fertilizers are washed off roads, bridges, parking lots, rooftops and other surfaces by runoff water from rain or melting snow.

This project will have you and your action team painting yellow fish on storm drains in your school’s neighbourhood and distributing fish hangers to help educate the community about how to preserve our precious water supplies by teaching about the impacts of pollution entering urban storm drains.  Your class can join thousands of other youth in taking to the streets and educating Canadians about their water supply, the impact it has on the health of their community and the need to protect it.
